Thank you for checking out my entry in the 2016 EXPER3 game jam, The Endless Masquerade. 2016's theme was CHOICE. As in 2015, I chose to make a single large game rather than four small games. Unlike previous years, I did my work in a preexisting game engine so that I could spend as much jam time as possible focusing on content creation. Since the game is a 2D Role-Playing Game, I worked in RPG Maker MV, latest entry in the venerable RPG Maker series.

This is just the introduction of the game, covering the first two areas and a taste of the third. This project was always bigger than could be finished in the timeframe of EXPER3. My goal was to produce a playable teaser, something to help me practice and to give people an idea of what to expect.

Although this teaser was written in just a month, it took nearly two years to be released. My wife played throught it at the end of EXPER3. But back then, RPG Maker MV had several memory leaks, and my wife's playthrough lost a significant amount of progress to them. I decided to hold the game back, waiting for a promised engine update that would resolve the problems. The leaks in the engine were eventually cleaned up, but the update also broke The Endless Masquerade. I had become busy with other priorities in the interim and did not have time to do the work to make the game compatible with the updated engine until recently.

Despite this two-year gap, the game as you see it here is the same as it was at the end of EXPER3 in 2016. As tempting as it would be to clean up things I would do differently if I did them again, this release does not contain any further edits, updates, or additional content. The only change has been updating the engine to the latest release, plus some plugin and code updates that were necessary to be compatible with it.

Thank you again for playing my little project, and I hope you enjoy your attendance at The Endless Masquerade.
